The 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Oudette Bernard is the most impressive wine I've tasted to date from this under-the-radar estate in Piolenc. Primarily old-vine Grenache (some planted in 1903), with bits of Mourvèdre and Syrah, and aged in a combination of older wood and stainless steel, it offers a lovely balance of herbs and fruit on the nose, with garrigue and black cherries gently intermingling. Full-bodied, rich and expansive, it finishes long and velvety, with a nice licorice kick. Joe Czerwinski
